Injury woe for Delph glovemen

GRANT JONES . . . struck in the ribs.
CRICKET: THE wicketkeeeping gloves have become something of a poisened chalice at Delph.
Regular first XI gloveman Grant Jones broke ribs after being hit and only five days later, Andrew Gleave suffered a calf injury while by the stumps.
Though Jones reckons he may return for tomorrow’s Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership encounter at Honley, he won’t be keeping wicket. With Gleave a doubt, the gloves will probably go to Jones’ son, Nathan, who took over part way through the Moorlands innings last weekend.
But Delph hope to have Arron Lilley back as captain. The all-rounder has missed the last two games through Lancashire commitments. Greg Buckley has led the side in his absence.
Delph are also in action on Sunday, with a Heavy Woollen Cup quarter-final tie at home to Gomersal.
Two recent defeats, a hammering by Hoylandswaine and disappointing loss against then basement boys Moorlands, have left Delph mid-table and in search of a pick-me-up.
“The atmosphere in the dressing room has been a bit quiet lately,” admitted Jones. “We haven’t really got going yet, but this would be a good time to put a run together.”
