GOLF: ASHTON and Denton have their pedal to the metal as the Oldham Golf League reaches the business end of the season.
Both won their ‘A’ League East Division home games 8-0 against Crompton and Royton and Brookdale respectively to stay out in front in the chase for a top two play-off spot.
The Ashton ‘A’ team are locked together with Fairfield, but they will be looking over their shoulders as Werneth are still in striking distance with a game in hand after a 7-1 home win over Fairfield.
Ashton are a win machine in the ‘B’ East, and it is now seven in a row after a 5-3 success at Crompton and Royton.
Behind them, Fairfield jumped out of the pack in pursuit of second place with a 7-1 home victory over basement side Werneth ‘B’.
In the West, Blackley ‘A’ will have been delighted with a 4-4 draw at rivals Dukinfield as they now trail by a point with a game in hand.
And Stamford ‘B’ did their play-off hopes no harm in the ‘B’ Division West with a 6-2 victory at Castle Hawk to open up a 10-point cushion.
Oldham ‘B saw their unbeaten record crash 8-0 at North Manchester, but they still have a game in hand and are far from out of the running.
