Shadley van Schalkwyk: early return home
CRICKET:
HEYSIDE will have to make do with deputy professionals for the rest of the Lake Garage CLL season.
Their contracted paid man, Shadley Van Schalkwyk, is to return home to South Africa following a visa problem.
He didn’ot play in last weekend’s nine-wicket victory over Ashton at Little Hey Street and his absence will be a major blow to Heyside’s Championship promotion ambitions.
Van Schalkwyk said: “I will be flying home on Monday. I’d like to come back to Heyside next season as I get on well with the club - but that will be their decision.”
A YOUNG Saddleworth and District Cricket League XI, skippered by Greenfield CC’s Adam Hayes, suffered a 99-runs defeat at the hands of the MCC at Wythenshawe yesterday.
The visitors, made up of Minor Counties and county second-team players, along with local cricket league stalwarts David Lees and Bobby Cross, amassed 281 for eight in their 50 overs.
