FRED Jones
KARATEA: FRED Jones returned to karate action after 15 years away from competition - and promptly won a gold medal at the JSKA European Championships in Glasgow.
A sixth-dan black belt, 54-year-old Jones stuck with his strict training regime and performed superbly in Glasgow, taking the gold medal in the veterans’ Kumite section (freestyle fighting) He then acted as a referee. for the rest of the day.
Jones is club instructor at Pennine Shotokan Karate (Karate1st) at Oldham Sports Centre.
Jones has been chief instructor since it opened and has guided and mentored many champions.
