MATTHEW Hampson won the Wainwright Cup, a major at Brookdale, with a sparkling round of 71-5-66.
Duncan Baird was successful in a card play-off for second against Dougie Sloan after they carded 76-9-67 and 72-5-67 respectively. Countback was also needed to decided fourth place, Tony Morgan (81-13-68) coming out on top against Peter Buckley (71-3-68).
WINNERS of the Oldham and District Golf Association’s four-man team competition (best two to score) were host club Oldham’s Graham Park, Mark Furnival, Bob Barrington and Geoff Procter with 94 points.
Runners-up, a single point adrift, were Werneth quartet Mark Abbott, Christopher Cordwell, Mark Routledge and Jack Suttie.
JACK Simpson and Peter Schofield won a nine-hole pairs Stableford organised by Oldham Gems.
Three points behind on 21 were runners-up John Billington and Stuart Wagstaffe, followed by Rod Frizelle and Ken Lunn (20).
TERRY Garrett held his nerve to secure major glory at Oldham. Garrett, Mark Heywood and Gary Williams each shot nett 64s in the Albert Warren Trophy, so an 18-hole play-off was arranged to decide the winner.
Garrett had a superb nett 63 to fend off Heywood (65) and Williams (70).
ROSE Bailey (left) and Brenda Martin teamed up to win the George and Bessie Nash greensome strokeplay event at Werneth, a major board competition. They shot 95-24-71 to beat runners-up Vivien Leaver and Kath Lomas (106-31.6-74.4).
