Town stay unbeaten after derby glee

FOOTBALL: ROYTON Town maintained their unbeaten start to the FBT Manchester League Premier Division season with a 1-0 win at local rivals Avro.
It was club’s first win after two draws. Third-placed Town are two points adrift of leaders Hindsford and just above Springhead, who surrendered their unbeaten record at Rochdale Sacred Heart.
’Head were poor in the 2-1 defeat and were indebted to the performance of ’keeper Kristian Ventress in defying the hosts.
It was no surprise when Rochdale went ahead on the half-hour mark after they were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area. The visitors equalised with their first piece of cohesive play but in the second half Rochdale were the better side and grabbed a deserved winner with eight minutes to go.
Uppermill are still searching for a first victory after losing 2-0 at home to Prestwich Heys.
FAILSWORTH Dynamos picked up a Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division point thanks to a thrilling 4-4 draw at home to Tyldesley United.
Oldham Hulmeians also had to settle for a share of the spoils in Division Two as they drew 2-2 against Farnworth Town.
