GOLF: OLDHAM members shone in the Joan Hirst Charity Cup at Brookdale.
First place went to lady captain Chris Peirson, Jill Nolan and Ann Rotchell with 71 points, who finished a point clear of Lees New Road clubmates Jane Antrobus, Bev Scholes and Sheila Antrobus.
The annual event proved a big success, with £500 handed to MENCAP, the chosen charity of Brookdale captain Angie Hunter.
The money was raised with entry fees, raffle and donations from the five Oldham clubs taking part.
WERNETH’S annual shotgun open — a four-ball Stableford — saw Julia Wild and Julie Connoly of Oldham, and Werneth pair Sheila Waterhouse and Glynis Jones, clinch top spot with 75 points.
The runners-up on 74 points were Mary Buckley, Edith Turner (both Oldham), Sylvia Haq and Anne Rotchell (Ashton). Jane Antrobus, (Oldham), Bev Scholes (Rochdale), Marilyn Griffin and Madge Griffiths (Werneth) were third on 71 points.
