Open victory for Tonge ace Gillies

TONGE’S Matt Gillies may have missed out on team success in the Greater Manchester Cup, but individual victory in the Pendleton Open and a £300 pay out have cushioned the blow.

Gillies landed the top prize at Pendleton with a comfortable 21-13 win over Swinton’s Neil Grant in the final.

Tonge were weakened by the absence of Gillies but still retained the GM Cup at Metro Sports, Stretford, with a comfortable victory over Dukinfield Central. Losing semi-finalists were Hopwood and Ashton CC.
