FOOTBALL: LIAM Flynn was Mossley’s hero as the goalkeeper’s stoppage-time penalty save helped his team hang on for a precious 2-1 Evo-Stik League Division One North victory against Bamber Bridge.
Flynn dived low to keep out Danny Mahoney’s spot-kick seconds before the end as Brig looked to seal a scarcely-deserved share of the spoils at Seel Park.
It was the Lilywhites who ultimately prevailed though, now unbeaten in five games and up to ninth place in the table.
Mike Fish handed Mossley the lead after 20 minutes. The advantage was doubled nine minutes after the restart thanks to skipper Andy Keogh’s smart finish. Mahoney pulled a goal back 15 minutes from the end, but by the full-time whistle it wasn’t enough.
The Lilywhites will bid to extend their excellent run of form tomorrow night when they host Witton Albion (7.45pm kick-off).
CHADDERTON progressed to the second round of the North-West Counties League Reusch First Division Cup with a 2-0 home victory against Bacup Borough.
James Curley and veteran Gareth Morris were on target for Chaddy before half-time. Chaddy return to league action on Saturday when they host Cheadle Town.
