Three-try salvo is killer for Rangers

RUGBY:
THREE converted tries in 14 second-half minutes put paid to Saddleworth Rangers’ hopes of finishing their Kingstone Press National Conference League season on a high.
Craig Farrimond’s side was in the game at 12-4 down at home to Skirlaugh, only for the East Yorkshire outfit to pull clear after the break to win 42-16.
A Matthew Fogerty try in the eighth minute put Rangers in front at Shaw Hall Bank Road, and they held on to the lead until the 26th minute when Alex Foster’s score was improved by Carl Puckering.
Puckering also added to Stuart Smith’s try before the interval.
Back came Rangers, who got within two points of the visitors with Ben Whitehead’s touchdown and conversion in the 47th minute.
But a Skirlaugh three-try blast left Rangers with too much ground to make up in the final quarter.
Puckering kicked all three goals and added another after Smith’s 71st-minute effort.
Rangers replied through a Dale Lowe try and Whitehead conversion, but Skirlaugh had the last laugh when Jack Hazelwood dived over and Puckering kicked his seventh goal.
