Shield progress for terrific Town

FOOTBALL: ROYTON Town won convincingly against FBT Manchester League Premier Division high-fliers Prestwich Heys in the Lancashire Amateur Shield.
Mark Howard’s men won 3-2; on target were Alan Beckett, Bill Dempsey and Joe Jacombs.
Springhead are up to second place in the Premier Division after a 3-1 victory at home to Old Altrinchamians.
Avro are hot on their heels in third place — they beat Manchester Gregorians 1-0 — while Uppermill picked up a much-needed point in a 1-1 draw against Stockport Georgians. Mark Jackson got the all-important goal for ’Mill.
In Division One, Hollinwood shared eight goals with second-in-the-table Elton Vale.
