HIGGINSHAW Eagles under-13s, cheered on by around 350 Warrington fans, rose to the challenge to defeat a Perpignan Select XIII 48-30.
Despite searing heat, Higgy refused to wilt and the forward effort laid the foundations for an excellent win.
Elliot White and man-of-the-match Niall Reyburn both scored hat-tricks, with Jack Hughes claiming the other two tries. Conversions came from Ryan Standring (five), Jamie Mayall (two) and Jack Hughes.
The match was played at St Esteve the day before the touring party of 15 players and 20 fathers and grandfathers went to watch the Catalans Dragons-versus-Warrington Wolves Super League match, won 52-14 by the home side at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.
“To say that we have only been established for just over two and a half years, these lads are putting in loads of hard work,” said Higginshaw Eagles coach Paul Deakin.
“This has been an outstanding season. To top off the good work in getting promotion to the premier league this year, hopefully the lads will come away from this trip with a little bit more knowledge of the whole game.”
