OLDHAM Snooker Academy-based Hamza Akbar will compete in the Victoria Bulgarian Open this weekend. Pakistan’s only player on snooker’s world tour, who lives in Werneth, takes on Atherstone’s Matthew Selt in the first round in Sofia on Friday, having flown out from England today. 22-year-old Akbar came to England last month and is being given help and practice facilities by OSA boss Mohammed Nisar.
SNOOKER:
DEAF ‘C’ have claimed possession of top spot in the Hollands Pies Oldham Amateur Snooker League.
A break of 41 from Andy Pickup got the ball rolling in their first frame at Three Cs ‘B’ before wins by M Merrington and S Clarke helped them to a 4-2 victory and place at the snooker summit.
St Pauls pulled off the perfect result at home to Chadderton Reform, and their 6-0 whitewash has
catapulted them into joint second place alongside Three Cs ‘A’, who were held to a draw at Blue Club ‘A’.
Saints almost recorded the perfect double. They added to their snooker win with a 3-1 success at cards and are top of the rankings in that discipline.
