NETBALL:
AN IMPRESSIVE 17 turnovers in the first quarter set Oldham Netball Club’s North-West Premier League side on their way to a resounding 64-32 success at home to Trafford.
The hosts, with “rebound queen” Susie Armstrong in superb form at goal keeper, led 17-7 at the end of the first quarter.
With Katie Bodha introduced at wing attack for the second quarter, Oldham continued to cause Trafford plenty of problems.
The only setback for the home side was an injury to Rachael Taylor, who was forced off with a twisted knee. She was replaced by debutant Ellie Fitzhugh at wing defence.
Leading 35-17 at halfway, Oldham coach Suzie Ashworth swapped her side around.
Fitzhugh moved to goal defence, Ebbie Danson-Chappell coming on at centre, Kimberley Meadows to goal shooter, Lucy Stevenson to goal attack, Bodha to wing defence and Victoria Austin on at wing attack.
Despite all the changes, the goals continued to flow and the advantage was 51-21 at the third break.
Oldham produced some moments of brilliance in the final phase of the game, but also made errors in winning the quarter by two.
Ashworth said: “I was really pleased with how everyone played. They put in a good performance.”
Oldham’s next game is away to Warrington on Sunday.
