Amy Clinton: Oldhamer moves up to Thunder
DAN Ryan has named his Manchester Thunder squad for the 2016 Vitality Superleague season — and it includes Oldham teenager Amy Clinton.
Thunder’s new signings Natalie Haythornthwaite, Malysha Kelly and Liana Leota join a 15-player squad mixing youth and experience. Young shooter Clinton’s form in the Next Generation and Mike Greenwood Trophy pre-season tournaments has been rewarded with a call-up to Superleague netball.
“Amy has developed out of sight over the past few months; I believe she’s going to be someone to watch out for in the coming years,” Ryan said
The 18 year old has had a double cause for celebration, since she has also been picked for England’s under-21s side.
Amy, a student at Oldham Sixth Form College, has represented her country at under-17s and 19s level.
Meanwhile, centre-court player Sara Bayman will once again captain Thunder.
Ryan, who will coach Thunder in his debut Superleague season, says he is “really happy” with his final squad and that it is “placed exactly where we want to be” with just under two months to go before the season opener.
He said: “I believe we have everything we need to be really successful in 2016.”
