AWARD . . . Crolla.
BOXING: CHADDERTON-based Anthony Crolla and his trainer Joe Gallagher have been celebrating major world boxing awards.
Manchester’s revered mentor Gallagher, who already boasts national acclaim after a stellar 2015 for Crolla, Scott Quigg and Liam Smith, among others, has won Ring Magazine’s Trainer of the Year prize.
Gallagher (47) was dumbfounded when he heard about his award success, something he clearly never expected despite recent successes.
He said: “Just to be nominated again (he was short-listed last year) is a huge honour, but to win is absolutely incredible.”
Crolla landed Ring Magazine’s unique Most Inspirational prize in the 87th edition of the awards after recovering from a fractured skull to win the WBA world lightweight title.
