FOOTBALL: HEYSIDE easily made it through to the quarter-finals of the Huddersfield League Barlow Cup as they hammered visiting HV Academicals 5-1.
The opening goal came when James Leonard pulled the ball back for Daniel Dunn to drive home.
Leonard soon made it 10 for the season after good work from Mark Hopwood and Dunn.
With Heyside threatening to run away with the tie, Division Two Accies were given a lifeline in the 25th minute when Danny Booth was adjudged to have pulled a HV player in the box following a corner.
The visitors converted a penalty past Jack Suttie.
In the 65th minute, a stubborn Accies defence was breached for third time following fantastic work from man of the match Johnny Pauley. Winning a tackle just inside the visitors’ half, he drove forward before playing a smart one-two on the edge of the box with Hopwood before driving home clinically.
Top scorer Hopwood got in on the act to continue his fabulous run, stretching his goal-scoring streak to 15 games following a superb through-ball from skipper Reece Hursthouse. Substitute Josh Briddon nodded home from close range to complete the rout.
