OLDHAM RUFC made the long journey to Aspatria in Cumbria on a wing and a prayer, unsure if the hosts’ pitch would be playable.
In fact their hopes were dashed as low temperatures, a partially frozen ground and snow on the pitch meant the game was called off - leaving Oldham to make the fruitless 140-mile back home.
