TABLE TENNIS: AMIR Hussain was on international duty for England in the Hungarian Cadet Open.
The youngster achieved a quarter-final place in the team event and reached the last 32 in the singles, after qualifying through the group stages.
The Oldham and District Table Tennis League helped fund Hussain’s trip.
The Oldham league’s junior players have been in action in the Junior British League and the Lancashire and Cheshire Inter-League competition. The JBL team performed well to claim third place in their division, with the final round of four matches still to be played.
The team of Sophie Newton, Alex Darlington, Josh Hudson and Dragomir Statev performed exceptionally to bag four victories and draw against top of the table Preston in the latest round of fixtures.
Darlington was outstanding in winning half-a-dozen of the eight matches he took part in.
