FOOTBALL: HEYSIDE moved to the top of the Huddersfield League Division One following a late show in a 3-2 win at Newsome.
Heyside should have been out of sight by half time but the usually reliable Mark Hopwood missed three clear chances.
Midfielder Johnny Pauley registered his ninth goal of the season after 15 minutes, slotting in following good work from James Leonard and Daniel Dunn.
The home side made Heyside pay for their first-half misses when they equalised on the hour. And things went from bad to worse five minutes later when defender Josh Briddon gave away a penalty.
With five minutes to go, big defender and man-of-the-match Briddon atoned for his earlier penalty error when he glanced a Johnny Pauley free kick into the roof of the net to haul Heyside level.
With minutes to go and a draw likely, Heyside’s Briddon headed against the bar. Then with seconds left the Newsome keeper spilled the ball and Heyside sub Chris Ollerton was there to poke home the winner with the last kick of the game.
In the Barlow Cup, Diggle progressed thanks to a comfortable 2-0 home victory against Shelley.
