NETBALL: HOT on the heels of a hard-fought victory over Tameside, Oldham Netball Club’s North-West Premier League side had a comfortable 55-40 success against Blackpool.
The first quarter was an even affair, until Oldham pulled away late on to establish a 17-10 lead.
Kimberley Meadows came on at goal attack and Amber Hazelton was introduced at wing defence at the break — and both players quickly found their feet.
With Oldham turning over the ball at regular intervals, Lucy Stevenson snapped up the chances at the post to stretch her side’s lead to 30-20 at half-time.
The third quarter saw Oldham make several errors, but they continued to take their opportunities to edge further clear at 42-31. Katie Bodha, at wing defence, impressed in the final quarter, imposing herself on Blackpool’s wing attack, while Stevenson was strong in the shooting circle to end up with a 88-per-cent conversion rate.
Oldham coach Suzy Ashworth said: “I was happy that we won each quarter and it was definitely an improvement from the previous week’s game. We worked better as a team and stuck to the game plan.”
