OLDHAM TALENT . . . Aqib Fiaz.
BOXING: OLDHAM’S 16-year-old boxing prospect Aqib Fiaz has been selected for the England talent programme.
Waterhead Academy student Aqib, who trains under the guidance of Joe Pennington and his elder brother Asam at Northside ABC, has been selected in the 60kg category. He will join England training camps and aim to earn selection for international tournaments.
Brother Asam said: “All of Aqib’s family are over the moon for him. This is all I’ve ever wanted for Aqib, too. To do what he loves at a high level will be unbelievable.
“It will take his boxing to the next level as he will be mixing it with the best in the country.”
