Fitton bitten by late show
Date published: 24 March 2016
A LATE penalty and converted try crushed Fitton Hill Bulldogs’ hopes of a first win of the season in Division Three of the North-West Men’s League.
The home side held a narrow lead with seven minutes remaining, only for Bold Miners to snatch a 36-29 victory.
Miners went in front through a converted try, but Fitton Hill drew level via a Josh Hulme touch down, goaled by Martin Swaine.
With man-of-the-match Kiel Lancashire keeping Fitton Hill on the front foot, Paul Turner was next to go in, after good work from Warren Druggitt. Swaine kicked the conversion.
Miners replied with a try, before Chris Jones went over for Fitton Hill after benefiting from fine approach work by Ste Lees and Sean Stubbs.
Play in the second half switched from one end to the other, with the visitors twice taking the lead.
Simon Topping put Fitton Hill on level terms and when Lancashire landed a drop goal, the hosts were in front.
A fracas saw three players sent to the sin bin — two from Fitton Hill — and soon after Miners poured forward to pick up the decisive points.
