Final-day duel to decide runner-up spot

Table tennis league game in Shaw: Unison 'E' player Alex Darlington (12) in the match against Hollinwood 'E'.
BIRLEY Moss and Saddleworth ‘B’ are vying for runners-up spot in Division One of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League and go head to head in the last match of the season.
Moss are three points ahead of nearest rivals Saddleworth, but the latter have a game in hand against champions Glodwick, who won the reverse fixture 8-2.
The battle to avoid relegation will be influenced by the Honeywell ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams. They clash with Uppermill ‘A’ and Unison ‘A’ who, with 60 points each, are fighting to avoid the drop.
In Division Two, three teams are contesting the two promotion places, with Coldhurst ‘A’ leading by a point from Hollinwood ‘B’. Rosehill are a further five points adrift with a game in hand.
The clash between Rosehill and Hollinwood ‘B’, which had to be postponed due to the venue being closed last weekend, will be crucial in the race for promotion.
Stanley Road will need to improve on their current form if they are to beat Rosehill in their final match and avoid relegation — a task likely to be beyond them.
