Moorside ace faces difficult first hurdle

SNOOKER: MICHAEL Wild has been handed a tricky game in the first round of qualifying for the Betfred World Championship.
The Moorside ace will face Nottingham player Michael Holt at Pond’s Forge, Sheffield. The 37 year old is currently ranked 28th in the world and a former semi-finalist at the 2013 Shanghai Masters.
Oldham-based professional Hamza Akbar, meanwhile, is up against Welsh star Jamie Jones. The 28 year old is ranked 33rd and reached a ranking semi-final this season at the Australian Open.
There are three qualifying rounds starting today to April 13, as players try to reach the televised stages at the Crucible later this month.
COMRADES ‘A’ clinched the Shaw Snooker League with one game to spare after a fine 5-1 victory at Greenacres. Comrades last tasted title success in the 1981-82 season.
Queen Street retained the darts crown, while Greenacres require two points to be sure of the cards league from their final match.
