CHAMPIONS Glodwick underlined their lofty position by beating third-placed Saddleworth ‘B’ 10-0 in a rearranged Oldham Table Tennis League Division One fixture.
Andy Jackson, Mark Ramsbottom and Amir Hussain did the damage. Saddleworth ‘B’ also went down 6-4 to Birley Moss in a close encounter. Kyan Chin (three) and Miles Benjamin (two) starred for the Moss, while Paul King (two) Matt Evans and Duncan Hadfield replied.
Chin and Benjamin took the doubles 12-10 in the fifth to clinch the win and secure the runners-up spot by five points.
Colin Boardman was on fire for Hollinwood ‘A’ — he notched a treble — in a 6-4 victory at Honeywell ‘A’, for whom Darryl Meredith and Phil Myers replied with braces.
In the relegation battle, Unison ‘A’ were beaten 6-4 by Honeywell ‘C’. Rob Carter recorded a treble for Honeywell, while Mike Brierley and Andy Hey won two each for Unison.
Despite the defeat, Unison avoided the drop as Uppermill ‘A’ could only draw 5-5 with Honeywell ‘B’.
In a tight match — eight went to five games — Gary Crossley (two) and Dennis Taylor (two) were matched by Lukasz Maciejewski (two) Tommy Ryan (two) and Pete Fowler.
Werneth ‘A’ saved themselves from the drop by gaining four points at Saddleworth ‘A’ in a 6-4 loss, thanks to a double from Karen Hill. Nathan Buckley trebled for Saddleworth.
In Division Two, Rosehill confirmed their return to the top flight by securing runners-up spot behind Coldhurst ‘A’ with a resounding 10-0 whitewash of Stanley Square.
Square have been relegated as a result, alongside Deaf Club ‘A’.
Hollinwood ‘B’ finished third after a 7-3 success at Honeywell ‘D’.
