Saddle up for charity bike ride

WHEELS IN MOTION . . . Saddleworth cricketers Daniel Poole, Danny Hesford, Ben Tunnicliffe and Ryan McGrath will ride between all 24 JW Lees Bitter Pennine Cricket League grounds on 24 on Saturday.
SEVEN Saddleworth cricketers are saddling up for charity on Saturday.
The group, headed by second XI captain Ben Tunnicliffe, will cycle 82 miles around all 24 Pennine Cricket League grounds. Starting at 6am from Walsden Cricket Club, they hope to reach the finishing line at Saddleworth’s Well-i-Hole ground 12 hours later.
They are raising money for two charities — Parents of Oldham in Touch (POINT) and After Breast Cancer Diagnosis (ABCD) — both of which are close to the hearts of the riders.
Ben, who came up with the idea, said: “Considering the last time several of us even rode a bike was several years ago, this will be a gruelling challenge.
“We’ve already raised £700, which means we’re well on the way to £1,000 target.
“It’s the club’s 150th anniversary this year, so it nicely ties into that and we’ve got other events in the pipeline. I just hope it raises awareness of the two charities — that’s the goal.”
