Delph demolish records in romp
Date published: 09 May 2016
RECORDS tumbled as rampant Delph smashed a mammoth 528 for five in 50 overs yesterday in their Drakes Huddersfield League Sykes Cup first round victory against stunned Marsden.
The Manchester Road side eventually breezed home by a whopping 406 runs as Marsden saw their reply crumble to 122 all out on a truly memorable afternoon.
In Delph’s incredible opening knock — the highest Sykes Cup total since 50 overs a side was introduced in 1984 — Arron Lilley scored 186 from just 65 balls, hitting 11 fours and 20 sixes.
Graeme Simpson added 100 off 75 balls as he and Lilley put on 274 for the fourth wicket.
Greg Buckley hit 85, Andrew Gleave 60 and Nathan Jones added 56 not out.
On Saturday, Delph bagged a high-scoring Premiership victory — their fourth out of four so far this term — at Hoylandswaine.
Batting first, Hoylandswaine scored a highly satisfactory 282 all out, with Ryan Robinson left unbeaten on 102.
However, that score wasn’t enough as Delph reachd 283 for eight, chiefly thanks to Chris Laker’s 67 and Arron Lilley’s 77.
