TAKE THAT . . . Greenfield skipper Chris Gill unleashes a shot on his way to an unbeaten 40 against Norden in the Tom Hardman Twenty20 Cup.
INSPIRED by Glyn Partington's three wickets in the last over, Greenfield can look forward to finals' day in the Tom Hardman Twenty20 Cup.
In the only tie to go ahead - wet grounds prevented the other three matches taking place - the home side defeated Norden by six runs in a thriller at Ladhill Lane.
Greenfield skipper Chris Gill led by example with the bat. He scored 40 off 26 deliveries, which included five fours and a couple of sixes, in a contest reduced to 12 overs each.
Australian professional James Muirhead added 17 and overseas amateur Alex Bychkov 14, the latter's seven-ball knock featuring two maximums, before he was snapped up by Simon North.
OPENERS
Set 113 for victory, Norden lost openers Hashum Malik (seven) and Michael Price (11) cheaply to Adam Hayes and Adam Robinson respectively.
However, a third-wicket stand between Ashley Gowers and Nick Brierley put the visitors in command.
Partington had other ideas.
After Robinson had removed Gowers for 29, Greenfield stalwart Partington had Brierley caught for 51, he bowled Harvey Fitton and then had Simon North stumped by wicketkeeper Bychkov
When all had seemed lost, Greenfield pulled off a remarkable success out of the bag.
Partington finished with figures of three for eight from two overs and Robinson claimed two for 26 off three.
The remaining three ties - Saddleworth v Crompton, Glodwick v Friarmere and Monton and Weaste v Littleborough - have been rearranged for this week.
