Police are investigating after a huge brawl broke out at a family funfair in Hollinwood.
Witnesses said parents with youngsters, some just toddlers, watched as groups of teenagers – reportedly armed with knives – began attacking each other as ‘Blackpool Comes to Oldham’ descended into chaos last night.
It’s understood some youths were escorted out by security, and the fair was forced to shut early.
Officers say that, as it stands, there have been no reported injuries or arrests.
A statement on the official Blackpool Comes To Oldham Facebook page apologised for ‘rowdy youths’ and said that security will be stepped up as a result of the incident.
It said: “We would like to apologise to anyone whose enjoyment was disturbed by some rowdy youths at tonight’s hugely popular Bring a Friend promotion.
“There were no reported injuries and no first aid was required.
“However, we would like to reassure everyone security will be stepped up, to prevent access to anyone trying to disrupt people’s fun.”
A GMP spokesman said: “We were called just after 8.15pm to reports of a large scale violent disorder involving mainly youths.
“There were also reports that weapons had been seen but it has not been confirmed if any were used.
“There have been no reported injuries or arrests at this time. Enquiries are ongoing.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
