Police have confirmed that a package seized by a bomb disposal team from a house in Hillside Avenue, Clarksfield, last Thursday (March 29) was 'not a viable device'.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said a suspicious item was removed from a property in Hillside Avenue as local residents were temporarily evacuated.
But following an assessment it turned out not to be an explosive device, as was initially suspected, and was later taken to Waterhead Park where it was disposed of safely.
The spokesperson said: "It was not a viable device and a controlled explosion was carried out in a nearby park."
Both ends of Hillside Avenue were cordoned off for several hours as a precautionary measure as police and a bomb disposal team caried out investigations.
