As expected, Labour remains firmly the party of power in Oldham after all the local election results had been finally declared at approximately 1.30am this morning (Friday).
Labour even increased their majority by claiming seats from UKIP.
The Liberal Democrats remain the main opposition in the town with eight seats, while the Conservatives doubled their tally of councillors to four.
It proved to be a dismal night for UKIP though, as they lost Saddleworth and Lees along with Failsworth West to Labour, with the Conservatives taking Saddleworth North from Labour and Saddleworth South from the Liberal Democrats.
In all Labour now holds 47 seats, a majority of 39 from the Lib Dems' eight.
There are four seats for the Conservatives and one independent.
Speaking after the result, Council leader Jean Stretton, who held onto her Hollinwood seat, claimed the results showed people continued to “trust us with looking after this borough and its future”.
Overall turnout was declared at 30.597%.
