Foxdenton Lane has been temporarily closed to through traffic
Chadderton’s B6189 Foxdenton Lane has been temporarily closed to through traffic while engineers carry out emergency carriageway repairs.
The closure, which is close to the town’s wastewater treatment works, was put in place last night (Sunday, June 3) following flood damage to a sewer manhole linked to the weekend’s extreme downpour.
Contractors working for United Utilities will repair the manhole and resurface a kerb-to-kerb section of road surface which has lifted and cracked.
United Utilities’ network engineer for east Manchester Ian Ramstead apologised for the disruption to commuters and local residents.
He said: “We realise how inconvenient these essential works are and we will try to get the road back to normal as soon as possible.
"Foxdenton Lane is a popular road for commuters but we would advise drivers to avoid it for the next couple of days unless they need to.
"We’ll make sure access is maintained for residents."
The road closure is expected to remain in place for at least two days.
