A family were forced to flee a fire at the rear of a house on Bromley Avenue in Royton overnight.
Shortly before midnight, a lean-to wooden outbuilding was believed to caught fire initially, and that spread to the house itself.
The house was badly smoke-damaged, but the Fire Service sent three engines to the scene within minutes and the fire was totally extinguished equally swiftly.
There were no reports of any injuries.
