Salvation Army pitch in to assist Saddleworth Moor firefighters

Firefighters battling the blazes on Saddleworth Moor are being ably supported by the Salvation Army.
The emergency response vehicle has been on site since the fire began on Sunday, serving food and hot drinks throughout the day and night.
Major Nigel Tansley is co-ordinating a team of volunteers from the Salvation Army, who are working in shifts on the emergency vehicle.
He said: “We are working hard to support the firefighters on the scene. Our volunteers have served over 1,000 drinks and 600 Mars bars since the fire began and we will be here for as long as the emergency services need our help.”
Approximately 100 soldiers from 4th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland, and an RAF Chinook helicopter have been deployed to support the Great Manchester Fire & Rescue Service operation responding to the Saddleworth Moor fires.
The troops deployed overnight last night (Wednesday) from their barracks in Catterick.
