There’s a good chance you’ve already seen it – it’s had 16 million views in less than a week – but the hilarious ‘wedding interrupted by a drag queen’ video was the result of a secretly-hatched plot that worked to perfection.

It was former Sholver and Chadderton resident Peter Deaville’s wedding to long-term partner Peter McConnachie that has now gone viral courtesy of the hilarious video.

Housing Officer Peter – who moved to Scotland 16 years ago – was getting married to Peter Mc at converted church St Luke’s in Glasgow last Saturday.

Midway through the ceremony a drag queen interrupts the service singing ‘It should have been me’, leaving the watching family and friends initially stunned, then later in stitches laughing.

Friend Graham Cole posted the video on Facebook, after which it was viewed and shared and well and truly went viral.

The impromptu interruption, however, was no surprise to the happy couple only.

Peter, now officially Peter McConnachie-Deaville, told the Chronicle: “We did plan it.

“Cheri Trieffel – his real name is Mark Swift - is a friend of ours and we asked him to do this before the wedding day.

“No-one at all knew of the plans apart from the three of us.

“We just wanted our guests to have a laugh, that was it really.

“We just wanted it to be a happy day for everyone and I think they all enjoyed it!

“It was about leaving our own legacy of laughter on what was a very special day for Peter and I of course.

“We certainly didn’t expect the response to the video. It’s amazing that 16 million people have watched it.

“Mark – or should I say Cheri – played a set during the evening and had everyone laughing again.”

Peter and Peter are currently getting away from all the fuss as they are honeymooning in Benidorm.
