UPDATED: Two bailed following Yorkshire Street attack

A man is currently fighting for his life in hospital after he was attacked outside a pub in Oldham town centre.
 
At around 3am yesterday morning (Friday) police were called to a report of an assault on Yorkshire Street.
 
Officers attended and found a man in his 30s lying on the floor with serious head injuries.
 
From CCTV enquiries and speaking to witnesses, it is believed an altercation involving several people took place near to the Old Bank pub.

The victim was then punched and the attackers fled.
 
Two men – aged 19 and 20 – who were arrested on suspicion of assault, have now been bailed pending further enquiries..
 
It is believed a large number of people came out of some of the bars and pubs on the road to witness the assault and officers are urging people to come forward.
 
Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Wilkinson, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This man is fighting for his life in hospital and the next few hours are going to be critical for him.
 
“His loved ones are by his bedside and we are doing everything we can to support them at this horrendous time.
 
“A crime scene was established on Yorkshire Street and while forensics recover evidence, we want to speak to as many witnesses as possible to understand what happened.
 
“We know lots of people saw this attack who haven’t yet spoken to police. I’d implore you to come forward and help us find all those involved."
