Queueing around the block for a glittering bargain

Date published: 24 July 2018

Last week the owner of Oldham’s popular jewellers, Alexander, announced that he had made the difficult decision to close the store.

Part of the town’s commercial scene for almost 40 years and one of Oldham’s most recognisable shops, the announcement came as a shock to many of the store’s loyal patrons.

Alexander, which is located on Greenacres Road shopping precinct, will be closing its doors for good this summer and launched its close-down period with a bang.

The spectacular closing down sale, which will last until all stock is sold, includes a large selection of exquisite gold and diamond rings, engagement rings, coloured stones, necklaces, bracelets and earrings; all available at 50% discount.

On Saturday when the sale started, shoppers eager to bag themselves the jewellery bargain of a lifetime queued around the block.

The store has built up a devoted customer base over the years, many who return year after year for that special item and will be disappointed to see Alexander close its doors for the final time.

Said owner Darren Nutter: “We knew that the closing down sale would be popular, as everything in the store is reduced by 50%.

"But we weren’t expecting the huge queues, which continued for most of the day on Saturday.

"We still have a lot of high-quality pieces available; including some stunning diamond jewellery and fabulous engagement rings; and of course everything must go because when the store closes in a few weeks’ time, we will have nowhere to retail from.

“I am sad because it’s the end of an era for Alexander Jewellers – but pleased that we have been able to offer so many customers a lasting memory of the store, in the form of a wonderful piece of jewellery at half price.”

The Alexander closing sale is showcasing huge savings on all stock, including 50% discount on high-quality diamond rings, coloured stones, gold and platinum jewellery.

There will also be a selection of high-quality watches available at a huge 30% discount.
