Oldham’s Council leader has hit out at fake news being circulated on social media.
Sean Fielding tweeted after receiving a screenshot of a Facebook post, which he is reassuring people in Failsworth is NOT true.
The screenshot reads: “Sex offenders rehab unit being built on James St, Failsworth.
“Where the youth centre was, opposite St John’s School.”
However, Cllr Fielding has moved quickly to reassure people in the area that no such building is being constructed.
He tweeted in response: “Just been sent this screenshot of a message being put about on Facebook.
“Sufficed to say, it is completely and utterly made up and no such unit is being built.
“A short email to me or one of my colleagues could have confirmed that before causing unnecessary community anxiety.”
