Weather update - cooler temperatures on the way

Date published: 13 September 2018

Oldhamers will need their coats this week as cold showers return, before some returning heat into next week.

Today (Thursday) looks to feature more sunny spells, albeit with a slightly higher - but still unlikely - chance of rain.

It will also be a little warmer overnight, dipping instead to 10°C.

Those out and about tomorrow (Friday) will need an umbrella as there is a high chance of rain drifting in from around lunchtime.

Temperatures are expected to fall to 13°C as cloud and a moderate breeze keep the sun at bay.

This weekend, tropical storms in the Atlantic are threatening to disrupt the jet stream and forcing some weather systems to the North West.

These are expected to bring low pressure and cool temperatures with them as the South East enjoys the sunshine.

Saturday will be mainly cloudy with a chance of rain overnight that will build into a day of light rain on Sunday.

Temperatures will hover around a maximum of 16°C with a light breeze from the south-west.

Because of the storms in the Atlantic, weather outlets have announced some uncertainty with respect to next week's forecast.

However, their predictions do seem to be promising; the rain is expected to die away by Monday, when temperatures will reach up to 17°C, and  sunny intervals on Tuesday will bring temperatures of around 20°C.

From then, temperatures are predicted to fall back slightly again as we head further into the week.
