Police have released the image of a man they want to speak to after a woman was punched unconscious, sustaining a serious head injury, in Manchester city centre.
At around 3am on Monday, May 28, 2018 the victim, a 21-year-old woman, left Panacea Bar on John Dalton Street in the city centre with a friend.
They got into a taxi with a group of unknown men, believing them to be travelling to the Knutsford area.
However, they got out of the taxi after a short distance, possibly on Oxford Street, when the men began to argue about travelling to Liverpool instead.
Upon getting out of the taxi, one of the men punched the victim in the jaw, causing her to fall unconscious and split her head open on the ground.
She was taken to hospital and has since recovered from her injuries.
Officers believe the men in the taxi may have connections to Merseyside or Cheshire.
Police have released the image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.
Constable Mohammed Waseem of GMP’s City of Manchester Division said: “This was a violent, unprovoked assault that could have easily caused even more serious injury.
“We are thankful that the victim was able to recover from the incident and we are committed to tracking down the perpetrator.
"Anyone who recognises the man in the picture, or has any information about the assault, should call police immediately.”
Information can be left with police on 0161 856 4275 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
