A woman has died after she became trapped between a van and a gatepost in Ashton.

Just after 3pm yesterday (Monday), police were called to Buttermere Road.

On arrival officers discovered a woman in her 60s who was in a critical condition after becoming trapped by a grey Mercedes Panel Van on her drive.

Sadly the woman died as a result of her injuries.

Her family have been informed and they are being supported at this time.

Sergeant Lee Westhead, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is an awful set of circumstances where a family have lost their loved one.

“We are currently working to establish the cause of this incident and we don’t believe anyone else is involved.

“However, we need to speak to more witnesses and are currently talking to neighbours and those on the street at the time of the incident.

“While we remain at the scene the road will be closed.”

Anyone with any information should call SCIU on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident number 1218 of 8 October 2018.
