UPDATED: Four charged after police officer injured by fleeing van

Two men and two teenage girls have been charged after a police officer was injured in Blackley.

Kane O’Connor, aged 23, of Pytha Fold Road, Manchester has been charged with an attempted section 18 assault, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and aggravated vehicle taking.

David Junior Curtis (22) of Fulham Avenue, Newton Heath, has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking.

A 16-year-old girl has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking and assault on a police officer and a 17-year-old girl has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking.

They will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court today (Friday).

Shortly after 7.30am yesterday (Thursday), police were called to reports of a disturbance at a flat on Sandyhill Road.

Officers attended and attempted to speak to the driver of a black Citroen Berlingo which then collided with one of the officers responding to the incident, three police vehicles and five cars belonging to members of the public on Blackley New Road.

The 43-year-old police officer was taken to hospital for treatment for leg injuries and he is now recovering at home.
