The unexploded tank cartridge found on Newquay Street
Cordons have now been lifted after an unexploded tank cartridge, found earlier today in Manchester city centre, was removed safely.
Shortly before 10.55am today (Wednesday), police were called to a building site on Newquay Street.
Specialist officers attended and Quay Street was closed at the junction with Water Street.
The bridge that crosses the River Irwell was also closed.
Early indications suggested the device had been there for some time.
