An elderly man had to be cut out of his car and rushed to hospital in a serious condition yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) following a crash in Royton.

It was shortly before 4pm when emergency services were called to Dogford Road in Royton following reports of a collision between two cars.

The road was closed for several hours during the evening rush hours while police, ambulance and fire crews worked to try and free the man, whose vehicle had flipped onto its roof.

The elderly man, believed to be in his 70s, was taken to Salford Royal Hospital with what are being described as “serious injuries”.

Two other people, believed to be in the other car involved, were assessed by paramedics at the scene.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “We were called at 3.53pm to reports of a two-car collision on Dogford Road in Royton.

“The road is currently closed."

It is understood the crash involved a red Toyota Yaris and a blue Skoda Fabia.

The road has since reopened.
