Caged for 13 years after attacking Oldham man with a machete

Date published: 05 November 2018

A man who burst into an Oldham house, attacking a resident with a machete while his one-year old daughter slept in the next room, has been sent to prison.

Twenty-seven-year-old Corey Fricker, from Blackburn, carried out the terrifying attack back in January, stealing the owner’s French Bulldog in the process before fleeing the scene.

Appearing at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, Fricker admitted an offence of robbery and possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and was jailed for 13 years.

However, his attack has left a more lasting impression on 21-year-old Kieren Hamilton, who required surgery for an armed injury sustained after being stabbed by the machete at his house in Oldham.

The court heard how Mr Hamilton, who was at home with his brother-in-law at the time of the incident, had his one-year-old daughter asleep in the next room when Fricker broke in during the early hours of January 5.

Mr Hamilton awake to find Fricker in his house.

He claims he was poked 40 times by the machete as his daughter was screaming in terror in the next room.

He suffered a deep cut to his left arm as the robber made off with jewellery and his Apple computer.

Mr Hamilton’s French bulldog hasn’t been recovered since the incident.
