Police probe after robbery by balaclava-clad gang

An investigation has been launched after four balaclava-clad men entered a supermarket in Rochdale, armed with a variety of weapons, and demanded cash.

It was at around 7.40pm on Saturday (November 17) when the gang walked into the Co-op on Market Street in Whitworth.

They threatened staff with violence and demanded they handed over cash and cigarettes.

The gang then fled with cash taken from the till along with a quantity of cigarettes.

A spokesperson from Lancashire Police said: “At 7.40pm on Saturday, we had a report of an armed robbery at the Co-op in Whitworth.

"Four males wearing balaclavas entered the shop armed with a variety of weapons and stole cash from the till and a quantity of cigarettes."

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing, with officers appealing for witnesses to contact them as soon as possible.
