Officers are appealing for information after a father and son were robbed in Oldham.

At around 9.30pm on Tuesday (December 4), two men armed with a hammer targeted a father and his young child as they left a KFC restaurant on Huddersfield Road.

The 40-year-old man and his six-year-old son were walking back to their car when they were approached by two men.

One of the men threatened the victim and his son with a hammer and demanded the keys to his car.

In fear for his safety and that of his son, the victim handed over the keys to his car.

The two offenders then got into the car and drove away.

The father and son returned to KFC where they contacted the police.

The vehicle was recovered around 11.05pm on Ribble Road, Oldham.

A number of items had been taken from the car including the victim’s laptop.

The two offenders are described as white men between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall wearing dark coloured tracksuit bottoms and tops.

Both offenders were describes in their early 20s and had their faces covered.

Detective Sergeant Alex Wilkinson, from GMP’s serious acquisitive crime team based at Oldham, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a father and his young child which has left them both terrified.

“I would like to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to identify those responsible for committing this violent crime.

“I would like to appeal for any witnesses to come forward who may have seen the incident take place, who saw anything suspicious in the area or who may have dashcam footage, to come forward.

“If anyone has any information, no matter how small or insignificant they think it may be, please get in touch with Oldham police station on 0161 856 4555 quoting log 2109 04/12/18.”
