Christmas trees can be recycled in green bins
Oldham Council is advising people on how to dispose of their Christmas trees following the festive period.
Bin collections in the region are due to change, as some collections should fall on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
But they will be changed for the festive season and residents are being urged to make themselves familiar with the new schedule.
After Christmas, trees can be disposed of in a number of ways.
They can be put in green bins, with the council advising residents to chop it into small pieces, remove the wooden block from the base, and take off lights and decorations.
They can also be taken to the local tip or to one of the recycling ‘drop off’ points from 28 December until 17 January.
These are at:
- Higher Memorial Park, Joseph Street, Failsworth
- Royton Park, off Bleasdale Street, Royton
- Werneth Park, off Frederick Street, Werneth
- Churchill Playing Fields, Wellington Road, Greenfield
All Christmas cards, wrapping paper and cardboard packaging can be recycled using blue bins or recycling bags.
Oldham Council have said they will collect extra recycling over the Christmas period as long as it is neatly presented and clearly labelled as recycling.
