Huge fines to be issued if you put your feet up on tram seats

People who put their feet up on tram seats should think again… It could cost you £1,000 in a new range of measures to tackle bad behaviour.

Antisocial behaviour on the Metrolink, especially on the Oldham line, has been a problem for bosses.

They’re now targeting people who put their feet on seats – which is a bylaw offence – as part of a major crackdown.

Swearing, vape, littering and being drunk could also carry hefty punishments.

It’s in a bid to target behaviours that “bother customers the most”, Aline Frantzen, Managing Director at KeolisAmey Metrolink told a publish meeting.

The new measures will come into force in the new year.

She added: "It's a very big change for Metrolink because we haven't gone hard before, we have taken a softer route for quite a while.

"This is the beginning of our new approach to good conduct, it's not the end.

"'Feet on seats will happen at some point. We are not focusing on it in the first two months but it will happen.”

In the year to July, there were 520 reported offences across the tram network.

The most often reports involved throwing objects, verbal abuse, and improper use of the emergency door handle activation.
